In 1925, Walter Hagen founded a company in Longwood, Florida that made hickory-shafted clubs. However, the Florida humidity proved impossible for the wooden shafts, so Hagen sold his company to the L.A.-based manufacturer, Young Company in 1927. Hagen then moved the company to Detroit, in the state where he was born, Michigan.
By 1944, Wilson Sporting Goods bought Hagen’s line and added him to the advisory board. Wilson then produced the Haig Ultra, Ultradyne and Ultradyne II model clubs. Hagen remained on contract with Wilson until his death in 1969.
Today, Hagen clubs are manufactured by Nicklaus Golf Company and distributed everywhere. 2nd Swing carries a wide selection of used Walter Hagen golf clubs, such as the Walter Hagen AWS Hybrid, which is a long club designed for senior players.
