TaylorMade 2019 TP5x Golf Balls (2019 TP5X NEW BALL)
Who’s It For?
The newest versions of the TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x, which include a proprietary five-layer construction, have been updated with new materials to produce faster ball speeds on every shot. In particular, TaylorMade uses a new Speed-Layer System and High-Flex Material to create both a soft core and stiff outer layers. While golfers of nearly all swing speeds and skill levels can enjoy the ball speed advantages of the TP5x, players with high swing speeds are more likely to also take advantage of its trajectory and short game feel attributes. Golfers in search of a higher launch, firmer feel and a piercing ball flight will enjoy the TP5x. However, players in search of a lower launch, more workable trajectory and maximum short game spin may prefer the TP5.
The Tech Story
TaylorMade has opened eyes over the past decade with its unique five-layer construction of Tour-level golf balls. The latest release, the new TP5 and TP5x, include High-Flex Material, “the fastest material TaylorMade has ever used,” to maximize ball speed while maintaining soft feel. The brand new Speed-Layer System is comprised of four layers that become increasingly more rigid toward the outside of the golf ball. High-Flex Material acts as a tightly wound spring around the softer inner layers and, when compressed, generates more rebound energy and more ball speed at impact. The Tri-Fast Core, which was successful in past models of the TP5 and TP5x, consists of a large, low compression inner core (25 compression in the TP5x) and progressively stiffer outer core and mantle to create decreased drag and more carry. Also returning from prior models is the Dual-Spin cover, which is made up of a 30 percent more rigid inner cover and an extremely soft outer urethane cover for maximum spin. The main difference in the TP5x, as compared to the TP5x, is the 25 compression from the inner core as compared to 16 compression in the TP5 inner core. This produces a higher launch on full shots and a more piercing ball flight without sacrificing exceptional short game attributes.
Facts and Figures
- Construction: 5-piece
- Cover: Urethane
- Compression: 97
“With the new TP5 and TP5x golf balls, we knew there was an opportunity to make them even faster. Our research into the driver and ball interaction at the moment of impact along with the development of a new material (High-Flex Material) has given us the ability to more efficiently convert compression into speed, at any swing speed. The new Speed-Layer System controls spin rates that is critical for driver, iron, and wedge performance.” -- Eric Loper, TaylorMade Director of Golf Ball Research and Development
