Welcome back to another edition of the Sunday Swing presented by 2nd Swing Golf. This week the PGA Tour made its annual stop at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans for its only team event on the calendar. Additionally, the best women golfers gathered in Houston for the first major of the season at the Chevron Championship.
Fitzpatrick Brothers Stay Hot
The Zurich Classic is slightly different than other PGA Tour events. Players compete in teams of two, with the first and third round format being best ball, while the second and fourth round format foursomes (or alternate shot). Matt Fitzpatrick arrived in New Orleans as the hottest player on the planet, having won last week at the RBC Heritage. He teamed up with his brother Alex, who’s playing some superb golf himself lately, recently winning in India DP World Tour.
The English duo was hot from the get-go this week, opening with rounds of 64 and 65. That 65 in the alternate shot format allowed them to gain significant ground on the field. Then, a scorching hot third-round score of 57 vaulted them comfortably to the top of the leaderboard. They set a new 54-hole scoring record of 30-under-par and held a four-shot lead with 18 holes to go.
The final round began according to plan. No mistakes, and their four-shot lead still intact. However, the Fitzpatricks ran into issues at the 12th resulting in a double bogey, followed by a bogey at the 14th. Suddenly, the brothers who looked to be in complete control found their big lead erased and were now tied at the top for the first time since early Saturday.
They would remain tied when they arrived at the 72nd hole, a reachable par-5 that provided a birdie opportunity. Needing an up-and-down from the sand to win, Matt Fitzpatrick delivered a stunning long bunker shot that flew 35 yards in the air and spun just outside a foot from the hole. Moments later, Alex Fitzpatrick tapped in the closing birdie. What made it even sweeter is that Alex has now earned a 2-year exemption on the PGA Tour, claiming his first PGA Tour title alongside his big brother. With the win, Matt Fitzpatrick has now won three times already this season and becomes the first player since Scottie Scheffler in 2024 to win back-to-back titles on the PGA Tour.
Korda Dominates at the Chevron Championship
This first major tournament of the season for the women quickly turned into a Nelly Korda highlight reel. Korda, who had finished runner-up in four straight starts leading up to the Chevron Championship, was in terrific form, but had been unable to close out a win thus far in 2026.
Korda quickly gained control of the tournament by shooting an opening-round bogey-free 65 (-7) to lead by two. She followed that with another 65 on Friday to sit at 14-under-par and seven shots better than anyone else.
During the final 36 holes, Korda was able to ride comfortably in cruise control. She shot back-to-back rounds of 70 on the weekend, ultimately winning by five shots and performing the traditional jump into the pond on Sunday.
With the win, Korda regains world No. 1 status and claims her third career major championship. She also joined Juli Inkster (1989) and Amy Alcott (1991), both at Nabisco Dinah Shore, as the only players in the last 50 years to win LPGA majors when leading by multiple shots after each round.
