Who’s It For

A key component in being a good wedge player is having wedges in the bag that will help you hit the types of shots you want to hit and be an asset as it relates to the course conditions where you regularly play. To ensure that golfers will have the options they need to perform better from 125 yards and in, Cobra has three different sole grinds available in its new KING Black wedges. The Classic Grind offers the most bounce of the three models but also features progressive width from heel to toe to promote versatility. It will work well for a wide variety of players and from all turf and sand conditions. The Wide Low Grind is a low-bounce option that will promote shot-shaping ability, but it features a wider sole to give players added forgiveness when playing from softer turf and sand conditions. And finally, the Versatile Grind is a mid-bounce wedge that has heel, toe, and trailing edge relief. It will work well for players who have neutral or more shallow attack angles and for those who play where there are firmer or more moderate turf and sand conditions.

The Tech Story

Cobra believes that its new KING Black wedges are the most precise wedges it has ever made. Why? For starters, the grooves have been fully CNC milled to provide incredibly consistent spin numbers, which will equate to players seeing consistency in terms of distance and trajectory. Additionally, wider, shallower grooves in weaker-lofted models and narrower, tighter grooves in models with stronger lofts will deliver optimal spin on full shots and shots played around the green. Optimal surface roughness across the clubface, which pushes the USGA limit, will further provide players with the spin they want around the green, while the muscleback construction of the wedge and the 8620 carbon steel it has been created from combine to dampen impact vibrations and improve feel. Also of note, the dimonized black metal finish not only offers a sleek, compact look but it’s also highly durable. And as is the case across Cobra’s 2018 club offerings, the KING Black wedges will feature COBRA CONNECT technology, which will allow players to track stats during their rounds to better identify strengths and weaknesses in their wedge play and short game.
