Who’s It For?

Callaway’s XR 16 Pro fairway woods were designed with lower and middle handicap players in mind, and those players will see the biggest gains in improvement with the switch to this club. The innovative features Callaway introduced with this line of woods primarily focus on improving the workability and consistency of shots, which will benefit the better player more than the lesser player. Players looking solely for an increase in forgiveness and distance should look to Callaway’s XR 16 fairway woods. But any lower or middle handicapper looking for more feel and workability should look no further than this XR 16 Pro fairway wood.

The Tech Story

Callaway’s primary goals with the XR 16 fairway woods was to make it easier for players to shape the ball left-to-right and right-to-left without forcing that player to sacrifice distance. To accomplish this, the company designed a clubhead that is both compact and aerodynamic. This slightly smaller shape will appeal more to the better players, and its improved design will help increase speed. Callaway also thinned out the crown of the club and shifted that weight around the clubhead to increase its forgiveness. Finally, Callaway’s engineers took the company’s Hyper Speed Face Cup technology and made it hotter and thinner, which has led to a larger sweet spot and an increase in speed.
