PING’s new line of Sigma 2 putters was created to help golfers develop more consistency on the greens, which is accomplished through the use of a new face insert that promotes improved speed control and a groundbreaking adjustable shaft system that enables players to self-fit the putter to work best with their setup position. There are nine different head shapes available in the Sigma 2 line. Included is the Tyne, which traditionally has been the most popular PING mallet shape with touring professionals. The Tyne is a high-MOI design that was created to provide optimal stability at impact, which is especially beneficial on shorter putts. The Tyne can also be custom built as face-balanced or with moderate toe hang, so it can work well for those with slight to moderate arcs in their putting stroke or those who use a straight back, straight through method.

Most unique about PING’s new Sigma 2 putters is shaft adjustability, which allows players to change their putter to any length between 32 and 36 inches. PING decided to develop this technology based on research that revealed eight out of 10 golfers are playing a putter that’s the wrong length. Using a putter that’s the wrong length can create multiple problems when it comes to effective putting, most notably poor alignment and inconsistent contact. The new adjustable system utilizes a small tool that players insert into the top of the grip. Once properly inserted, which is not difficult at all, the tool can be turned to the right to shorten the shaft or to the left to lengthen the shaft, with the grip staying perfectly aligned throughout the process. Also new in the Sigma 2 line is a new Dual-Durometer face insert. The front layer of the insert is softer to promote precision on short putts, while the back layer is firmer to provide enhanced feedback, as well as improved distance control on longer putts. The feel provided by the Dual-Durometer insert would best be described as soft but responsive, and the insert also utilizes PING’s True-Roll technology, which features a milling pattern on the face that varies by depth and pitch to provide more consistency in terms of ball speed.
