Who’s It For?

Titleist has long been known as one of the premier manufacturers of iron sets in the world. New to the market in August 2019 are Titleist’s T-Series irons, which include options for golfers of all experience and skill levels. The T200 irons, specifically, are designed to improve ball speeds without the thick clubhead shape of a game-improvement iron, so they are best suited for low- to mid-handicap golfers searching primarily for added distance. Consistent ball strikers looking for a true Tour iron set may prefer the T100 irons, while someone who wants an emphasis on high launch and forgiveness may want to try the T300 irons.

The Tech Story

The T200 irons were designed to increase distance without sacrificing the look, trajectory, or stopping power generated by many players irons. Titleist achieved this by creating and implementing Max Impact Technology, which consists of an ultra-thin L-face backed by a unique polymer core that was developed in partnership with Titleist golf ball R&D. This not only results in added distance, but also extra vibration dampening that improves both sound and feel at impact, regardless of where contact is made on the clubface. Like the T100 irons, the T200 irons have also been constructed progressively with added forgiveness attributes built into the longer irons. The longer irons (4-iron through 7-iron) include a high-strength cast body and a spring steel L-face, both of which increase face flexing and ball speed at impact. Additionally, the long irons are built with additional tungsten weighting in the heel and toe to provide more forgiveness on the more difficult long iron swings. The T200 irons offer moderate offset and sole width, each slightly larger than the T100 irons, to appeal to that range of low- to mid-handicap golfers.

Compare Titleist T200 vs. 718 AP3 Irons | Trackman Testing & Comparison

Description: The 718 AP3 was Titleist’s first true entry into the players distance iron category. So earlier this fall when Titleist released the new T200, which is also a players distance iron, many assumed that it was a replacement for or an updated version of AP3. But that’s not the case, as each of those irons features a completely different construction approach. That said, given that T200 and AP3 do both squarely reside in the aforementioned players distance category, it’s only natural that people are going to compare the two, which is why 2nd Swing staff members Thomas Campbell and Andrew Mahowald wanted to test them using Trackman 4 to explore the differences in look, sound, feel, and performance.
