Cobra KING Black One Length Wedge
Who’s It For
Cobra has had great success with its various One Length iron models and with its new KING Black wedges wanted to make a One Length version available for players who want to match their wedges to their irons sets. As is the case with One Length irons, each of the wedges will be the length of a standard 7-iron, which for Cobra is 37.5 inches. The thought process behind the one-length concept is that players will be able to utilize the same swing and setup position with each club in the bag, with the result being less complication and more consistent results. In terms of the KING Black One Length wedges, they are being offered in lofts of 56 and 60 degrees and with Cobra’s Versatile sole grind. The Versatile Grind is a mid-bounce design that has heel, toe, and trailing edge relief. It will work well for players who have neutral or more shallow attack angles and for those who play where there are firmer to moderate turf and sand conditions. For those who aren’t interested in One Length golf clubs, Cobra also offers a wide array of KING Black wedges in conventional lengths, including additional sole grinds and more loft options.
The Tech Story
Cobra believes that its new KING Black wedges are the most precise wedges it has ever made. Why? For starters, the grooves have been fully CNC milled to provide incredibly consistent spin numbers, which will equate to players seeing consistency in terms of distance and trajectory. Additionally, wider, shallower grooves in weaker-lofted models and narrower, tighter grooves in models with stronger lofts will deliver optimal spin on full shots and shots played around the green. Optimal surface roughness across the clubface, which pushes the USGA limit, will further provide players with the spin they want around the green, while the muscleback construction of the wedge and the 8620 carbon steel it has been created from combine to dampen impact vibrations and improve feel. Also of note, the dimonized black metal finish not only offers a sleek, compact look but it’s also highly durable. And finally, as is the case across Cobra’s 2018 club offerings, the KING Black One Length wedges will feature COBRA CONNECT, which will allow players to track stats during their rounds to better identify strengths and weaknesses in their wedge play and short game.
