Used Titleist Vokey SM9 Raw Wedge
Who’s It For?
The name ‘Bob Vokey’ has become synonymous with wedges, and with good reason. The Titleist Vokey Design wedges are the most popular models year-in and year-out among professionals and amateurs. New in 2022 is the Vokey Design SM9 series, which is Vokey’s latest creation that delivers exceptional performance and control for all golfers. From a fitting perspective, the six unique sole grinds cover every type of player. The ‘F’ grind is designed mostly for full swings in which the clubface is square at impact and will work for a wide range of players and turf conditions. The ‘M’ grind fits golfers with a shallower angle of attack who play shots from a variety of clubface positions. The ‘S’ grind has a full, but narrower, sole that is best for golfers in neutral to firm conditions or players who like to manipulate the loft of the wedge with their hands. The ‘D’ grind is the versatile high-bounce option, offering forgiveness and playability for golfers with a steep angle of attack or for play in soft conditions. The ‘K’ grind is the ultimate bunker club, featuring a wide, full sole with enhanced camber to execute splash shots and explosion shots from soft conditions. And finally, the ‘L’ grind is the lowest-bounce option, designed for the most skilled and most creative shot-makers around the green.
The Tech Story
The most impactful technology found within the Titleist Vokey Design SM9 wedges is Forward Center of Gravity Progression. Originally introduced in the SM8 series, the new SM9 series raises the center of gravity vertically by adding weight to the topline, where a tapered pad at the back of the toe helps align the center of gravity properly without being visible from the playing position. This unique concept promotes a lower, more controllable launch and more consistent distance. The grooves have been designed through a new Spin Milled cutting process, which includes a tightening of Titleist’s allowable tolerances to produce consistently sharper grooves. Plus, micro-grooves are individually cut in between the larger grooves to maximize spin on partial swings. The grooves are also optimized for each loft, with the lower-lofted wedges featuring narrower, deeper grooves and the higher-lofted options equipped with wider, shallower grooves. The Titleist Vokey Design SM9 wedges are available in four distinct finishes: Tour Chrome, Jet Black, Brushed Steel, and Raw.
