Who’s It For?
Srixon lived up to its reputation as a manufacturer of premium Tour-level golf balls with its latest Z-Star series. Brand new innovations such as the FastLayer Core and Slide-Ring Material, which enhance key attributes such as feel, spin and distance, have been added in the newest Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV models. The Srixon Z-Star series is generally suited for players with higher swing speeds, while Srixon’s Q-Star series offers many of the same performance characteristics for low and medium swing speeds. The Z-Star’s three-piece construction provides incredibly soft feel and maximum spin without sacrificing distance-enhancing technologies. Golfers in search of more emphasis on distance will want to try the four-piece Srixon Z-Star XV.
The Tech Story
Srixon included a new FastLayer Core in the latest Z-Star series to increase both feel and ball speed at impact. The FastLayer Core starts soft in the center and gradually becomes more firm around the edge to promote the feel of both a soft and firm golf ball. Also new in the latest Z-Star series is Slide-Ring Material, which combines with Srixon’s Spin Skin to provide a thin, durable, and resilient cover on the golf balls. While most thin covers don’t generate Tour-level spin, Spin Skin and Slide-Ring Material are able to dig deep into wedge and iron grooves to dramatically increase friction and, therefore, spin for more control and stopping power on each shot without sacrificing exceptional distance. This is achieved through the process of what Srixon calls, “moveable cross-linking,” between Spin Skin and Slide-Ring Material which takes unprecedented levels of shearing force without breaking molecular bonds. The Z-Star’s compression has been slightly increased, from 88 to 90, from the previous model to increase distance and improve results for long hitters. Srixon makes the Z-Star with a three-piece construction, resulting in a lower compression than the Z-Star XV (102) but maximum spin around the greens for premium short game control.
Facts and Figures
“The new Z-Star series golf balls are built on top of the heritage of the most successful, trusted Tour golf balls in the market. The exceptional ball speed and distance of both Z-Star offerings are driven by the new FastLayer Core technology, producing both outstanding ball speed and launch conditions tuned for the high swing-speed, better player.” -- Jeff Brunski, Srixon Vice President of Research and Development.
“This ball, I mean, it feels like it explodes. I love that feeling with the driver. And it spins a lot with my middle irons but, of course, with a wedge you can spin it like crazy.” -- Russell Knox, two-time PGA Tour winner.

to determine if it has been used.

This club has seen normal usage for an extended period of time, at least one season, has
