Who’s It For?
TaylorMade has nestled itself into its own section of the golf ball market with its five-layer golf balls. The latest edition of TaylorMade’s TP5 and TP5x golf balls introduce High-Flex Material and a Speed-Layer System to maintain an incredibly soft core while producing high ball velocities typically not produced by softer golf balls. Overall, the TP5 and TP5x are primarily created for players with higher swing speeds, but golfers of all levels can experience the distance-enhancing benefits of the TP5. Specifically, golfers who prefer a softer feel, lower launch, and more spin around the greens will likely prefer the TP5. However, golfers who like a firmer feel and higher launch from irons may gravitate to the TP5x.
The Tech Story
The five-layer construction that has made TaylorMade’s golf balls famous is not without revolutionary technology that produces results. The new Speed-Layer System features High-Flex Material, the fastest material TaylorMade has ever used in its golf balls. It acts as a tightly wound spring wrapped around the soft core to increase force on the clubface and enhance ball speed at impact through a greater rebound effect. The Tri-Fast Core consists of an extra-large, low-compression inner core (16 compression in the TP5) and a progressively stiffer outer core and mantle. These three layers work together to create lower drag and increased carry off the face of any type of club. A Dual-Spin cover consists of an ultra-soft cast urethane cover surrounding a 30 percent more rigid inner cover, creating an environment that is well-suited for greenside control. The extremely-low 16 compression in the inner core of the TP5 helps produce a lower launch on iron shots and more spin on wedge shots than the new TP5x for the utmost greenside control. Overall, the TP5 offers exceptional workability and greenside control without sacrificing distance, a combination sought after by many of the world’s best players.
Facts and Figures
“With the new TP5 and TP5x golf balls, we knew there was an opportunity to make them even faster. Our research into the driver and ball interaction at the moment of impact along with the development of a new material High-Flex Material has given us the ability to more efficiently convert compression into speed, at any swing speed. The new Speed-Layer System controls spin rates that is critical for driver, iron and wedge performance.” -- Eric Loper, TaylorMade Director of Golf Ball Research and Development

condition guide. Our golf club condition guide is as follows:

Shows virtually no traces of wear and has been hit 1-3 times total. It will be difficult
to determine if it has been used.

This club has seen normal usage for an extended period of time, at least one season, has
been well cared for, and is still in good used condition.

for someone who isn't as interested in cosmetics but cares about performance.
This golf club shows considerable wear but is usable.
