TaylorMade Speedblade Wedge

The TaylorMade SpeedBlade irons are designed for mid and high handicappers, and feature the “Speed Pocket” in the 3-7 irons, a slot in the sole that allows the face to flex at impact and deliver more ball speed and a higher launch. The higher launch trajectory is especially notable on shots hit low on the face, where TaylorMade researchers found that most iron shots are struck by 5- to 25-handicap golfers. The high launch and peak trajectory mean a steeper, softer landing and gives players the ability to go after greens from further away. With an expanded Speed Pocket and enhanced cavity badge and filler materials, the SpeedBlade irons are a step forward from their predecessors, the RocketBladez irons. Speed PocketA slot in the sole behind the clubface, the Speed Pocket allows the face to flex and spring back at impact for high ball speeds and a high launch. The Speed Pocket has been expanded in the heel and toe sections to make ball speeds more consistent across the face, enlarging the effective hitting area and sweet spot. The Speed Pocket is used in the 3-7 irons, while the 8 and 9 irons and wedges emphasize feel and control. LaunchThe SpeedBlade irons have a high launch profile, and excel at getting the ball into the air even on shots hit on the lower portion of the face. Forgiveness & ControlThese irons are primarily centered around forgiveness, with feel and control added in the short irons. The extended Speed Pocket cavity in the toe and heel make off-center shots travel with more distance, making for better consistency and accuracy, overall.
