Buying New vs Buying Used: the Pros & Cons

February 17, 2023

The eternal debate rages in nearly every golfer's mind: should I buy new or used? Often, the argument boils down to simply comparing one price to another, but each category of golf club has its own list of pros and cons that go beyond sticker prices.

Buying NEW

Pros:

  • You can feel confident you are holding the latest technology in your hands
  • The equipment has never been used before and is blemish-free
  • Reaping the earned clout/cache from playing partners and passersby who peer at your bag on the range or the course

Cons:

  • Paying higher prices
  • Hitting the ball too far
  • Making too many putts

Buying USED

Pros:

  • Paying lower prices, apples to apples
  • With hindsight, golfers can gauge how innovative products truly were before purchasing
  • You feel more comfortable throwing your clubs

Cons:

  • You will not be using the “latest and greatest”
  • Depending on the clubs’ conditions, there may be nicks or smudges here or there
  • Anxiety over how to spend the money you saved on your purchase

As you can see, deciding whether to buy new or used is challenging, and golfers should carefully weigh all options before pulling out their wallets. Of course, the best place to make that decision is at your nearest 2nd Swing location or online at 2ndswing.com.
