How a rare item from 2nd Swing is traveling all over the United States

2nd Swing’s massive selection of over 100,000 golf clubs includes any brand and model imaginable. This has been the case for years.

Among the incredible selection is a plethora of rare and unique clubs. If golfers do some digging through 2nd Swing’s inventory, they’ll find some items that cannot be found anywhere else.

Through Twitter, 2nd Swing customer and avid golfer Laz Versalles recently came across a unique item and just had to try it out.

The item is a Titleist 975D driver with 5.5 degrees of loft. Twitter user JunkMaster Flex (@CJ_81), someone Versalles recognizes as a club junkie on Twitter, posted a picture of the item from the 2nd Swing Minnetonka location back in February.

Versalles saw the photo -- and price tag of $4.99 -- and couldn’t believe it.

“I’m just like no, no. This can’t be real.” Versalles said. After finding that the club was still in Minnetonka, he contacted the store and immediately bought the item and had it shipped out to him in the Santa Monica, California area.

Versalles said he never wanted to keep the club. He was overcome with curiosity about what it would be like to hit a driver with 5.5 degrees of loft. And, as he would so find out, he isn’t the only one.

“I just wanted to see if it’s real. And yep, it’s meaty,” Versalles said. “I saw what was coming after that. I figured I’ll hit this and whoever wants it next can have it.”

Versalles engages with other golfers frequently on Twitter and thought about all of the club junkies and avid golfers that follow his account. Based on his following, Versalles assumed it wouldn’t take long before someone claimed the driver next.

The 975D driver was shipped to Don Smith in Michigan. Smith posted a video of himself ripping the 5.5-degree driver as snowflakes fell from the sky on what appeared to be a cold day in Michigan.

Smith then continued the tradition, asking his followers if anyone wanted to try out the unique driver. Luke Boatwright, an avid golfer in South Carolina, claimed it first and had the next crack at it, posting two videos -- one shot off a tee, one shot off the ground.

Next, the driver was shipped to Rob Stratton in Arizona, who also posted a video swinging the mighty 975D driver. He, too, asked a Twitter follower to claim the next spot in line. As of now, the driver is being shipped to Kirby Oaks in South Dakota.

So, to review: this 975D driver was originally spotted at the 2nd Swing Minnetonka store in February with a photo posted on Twitter. In a little over a month, the club has traveled from Minnesota to California, Michigan, South Carolina, Arizona, and now South Dakota.

This movement doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon. It all started with Versalles purchasing the club and posting about it to his followers.

“It’s been a great way to connect with golf twitter people,” Versalles said. “The world is a little weird right now, but we’re all still passionate golf nerds. It’s a nice distraction from what’s going on in the world.”

Interested in hitting this unique driver? Reach out to us and we will do our best to connect you with the golfer who currently has the driver. But we must warn you -- demand is growing quickly!

Here’s to hoping the 975D driver can see all 50 states.
