Wyndham Clark had never won on the PGA Tour as of April 2023. He had contended a few times, sure, but he was not a household name to take note of in big events. That’s changed quickly thanks to his win at the Wells Fargo Championship in May and now his first major win at the U.S. Open this past weekend at The Los Angeles Country Club.

Clark survived difficult conditions and a pack of superstars chasing him to win by one shot, leaving players like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Rickie Fowler in the dust. Clark was especially steady during the weekend, rarely making the big mistake that so many players do at the US Open. Holding a one-shot lead with two holes to play, Clark executed a beautiful up-and-down to save par on the 17th hole, and followed that with a ho-hum par on the 18th in which he hit the fairway, hit the green, and two-putted.

 

With the win, Clark moves into the Top 15 of the official world golf rankings and becomes almost a certainty to qualify for Team USA at the Ryder Cup based on points.
