Who’s It For?

Titleist is adding to its highly-successful line of TS drivers with the release of the TS4 driver. Engineers at Titleist had high swing speed players in mind when developing the TS4, creating a smaller, 430cc clubhead in an effort to reduce spin, produce a lower flight, and add workability. Golfers with higher swing speeds in search of less spin off the tee and/or looking for added workability will enjoy the benefits of the TS4 driver. However, the powerful technology in the other Titleist TS drivers will help golfers with more moderate swing speeds or golfers who don’t struggle with high spin.

The Tech Story

The TS4 driver from Titleist is one of the newest additions to the TS family, joining the previously-released TS2 and TS3 drivers. Not surprisingly, the TS4 features many of the same technologies as the TS2 and TS3 to generate impressive ball speeds in an aesthetically pleasing design. Titleist included an ultra-thin titanium crown and a refined Radial VFT (variable face thickness) in the TS4, both of which reduce weight and increase ball speed. The TS4 also comes with Titleist’s trademark SureFit hosel that allows golfers to tune their loft and lie to 16 unique settings to achieve optimal launch and spin. Despite these similarities to its TS siblings, the TS4’s compact 430cc clubhead isolate it in terms of launch and workability. The center of gravity in the TS4 is located five millimeters more forward than the TS3 thanks to a SureFit Flatweight that is positioned closer to the face than in other TS drivers. This results in the extremely low spin produced by the TS4 driver, which is roughly 300-400 RPM fewer than the TS3. For golfers who struggle with high spin, this decrease can result not only in straighter tee shots, but it can also add 10 yards of distance.

Trackman Testing: Titleist TS4 vs. TS3

2nd Swing master fitter Thomas Campbell has been playing the Titleist TS3 driver this season and he chose that driver in large part thanks to the low spin rates and high ball speeds it produces for him. With Titleist having now released the new TS4 driver, which was designed to even further lower spin, Campbell and 2nd Swing staff writer Drew Mahowald decided to test the new TS4 against Campbell's TS3 to see how each performed using a Trackman 4 launch monitor.
