Callaway’s brand new Flash Face technology was implemented in the Epic Flash Sub Zero fairway to create a club that boasts both exceptional ball speed and precision shot-shaping. This driver is especially suited for golfers with high swing speeds that want the extra distance offered by Flash Face technology but also seek more trajectory control. The Epic Flash Sub Zero fairway wood is also an excellent option for golfers seeking lower spin rates. However, golfers with average or low swing speeds will probably find that the standard Epic Flash fairway wood is a better fit.
The Tech Story
Callaway engineers used what they learned in creating the Epic Flash drivers with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to create the Epic Flash fairway woods. The ultra-thin, forged Carpenter 455 steel clubface incorporates Callaway’s trademark Face Cup technology and new Flash Face technology for a clubface that produces high COR to promote fast ball speed on contact made in the middle of the face or outside the sweet spot. The Epic Flash Sub Zero fairway woods also include Jailbreak technology, which stabilizes the crown and sole by connecting them with two internal vertical bars. It also promotes ball speed by allowing the clubface to absorb greater impact energy. Additionally, the new, lighter OptiFit Hosel provides customizable adjustability options while creating discretionary weight, which allowed both Jailbreak and adjustability to be combined for the first time in a series of Callaway fairway woods. A unique feature offered by the Epic Flash Sub Zero fairway woods that is not offered by the standard Epic Flash is the adjustable sole weighting. It consists of two interchangeable 16- and two-gram weights. Installing the heavier weight in the front location delivers a lower trajectory and lower spin rates, while placing the heavier weight in the back location will result in easier launch and a higher trajectory. Furthermore, the Epic Flash Sub Zero’s clubhead volume is markedly smaller than the standard Epic Flash (169cc to 180cc in the 3-wood), promoting flatter trajectories.
