Brian Harman had not won on the PGA Tour since 2017 before this weekend, so it's understandable that he was an afterthought entering The Open Championship. However, what many golf fans may have missed is that Harman's resume before The Open included a great track record on links courses, specifically a top 10 finish at last year's Open. The No. 26 player in the world also had finished top 12 in his last three events. So, on the other hand, should he really have been an afterthought?

The 36-year-old lefty is no longer an afterthought after a six-shot victory at Royal Liverpool thanks to excellent ball striking and remarkable putting. Harman didn't overpower the course like so many golfers do in the modern game. Instead, he used precise placement off the tee and on approach shots, avoiding trouble and keeping his ball in play. Then, of course, was his spectacular putting performance. Harman made 58 of his 59 putt attempts from inside 10 feet, a preposterous number that will make any golfer tough to beat.
