Cobra RAD Speed Introduces Radial Weighting

Cobra RAD Speed Introduces Radial Weighting

December 10, 2020

Cobra Golf has been very innovative over the last few years finding new ways to create performance for golfers, and that continues in 2021 with the new RAD Speed product line set to hit the market in January.

The products aren’t called “RAD” because they’re cool or hip, although they might be cool. RAD actually comes from the term Radial Weighting, which is where Cobra engineers focused their efforts to improve performance.

More specifically, Cobra has increased the Radius of Gyration. In other words, the sole weights are positioned farther behind the center of gravity. This increases MOI and allows for more optimized spin and trajectory in all products.

In the standard RAD Speed driver, for example, the weights in the front and in the back of the sole are positioned further apart than the weights in the previous models were, including the F9 Speedback and the SpeedZone models.

Cobra also implemented the CNC Milled Infinity face into the drivers and fairway woods that has been successful over the past couple of generations. It’s designed for explosive ball speeds all over the clubface by ultimately increasing the size of the sweet spot.

There are three RAD Speed driver models: the RAD Speed, the RAD Speed XB, and the RAD Speed XD. The standard RAD Speed is the most compact model and features interchangeable weights to allow golfers to adjust spin and trajectory. The RAD Speed XB is built for forgiveness and launch, with sole weighting positioned farther back. And finally, the RAD Speed XD is a draw-biased model with added weighting in the heel.

The RAD Speed line also includes four fairway woods: the RAD Speed, the RAD Speed, Tour, the RAD Speed Big Tour, and the RAD Speed Draw. As is the case with previous generations, the standard model is designed for that low-spin, high-launch combination. Both Tour models are designed more specifically for low spin, while the Draw model includes more heel weighting to produce a draw. The Big Tour model is only available in a stronger-lofted 3-wood, and the Tour model is a 5-wood only.

The RAD Speed hybrid includes Radial Weighting that actually brings weighting more forward in order to lower spin, thus improving distance. It will also be available in One Length.

The RAD Speed irons were built with the help of 3D printing, allowing engineers to create more prototypes faster than a traditional process. These irons also include many features of success Cobra irons in the past, such as a carbon fiber topline and PWRSHELL face insert. The result is explosive ball speeds and reliable forgiveness, allowing golfers to confidently swing for the pin.

The RAD Speed irons are also available in the One Length concept, in which all of the irons are the same length to promote a consistent swing plane.

The Cobra RAD Speed products are all available online at 2ndswing.com or in 2nd Swing store locations.
