Exploring the Titleist TSi Expansion

November 03, 2022

By: Michael Geiger, 2nd Swing Product Expert

Titleist first introduced its new TSi metals lineup in the fall of 2020, originally releasing the TSi2 and TSi3 drivers and fairway woods. However, Titleist was only getting started. The TSi lineup now includes a TSi1 driver, TSi1 fairway woods, TSi1 hybrids, TSi2 hybrids, TSi3 hybrids, and a TSi4 driver. Luke Epp, Global Product Marketing Director for Woods and Irons, gave us the full breakdown.

To start, Epp framed Titleist’s overall approach for the new TSi line quite simply, “First and foremost, it’s faster through the air. Secondly, it’s faster at impact and longer off the tee. And third, it is straighter down the fairway.”

After speaking about Titleist’s new TSi equipment in a more general sense, Epp then dove into the specifics of individual products.

With regards to the new TSi4 Driver, Epp stated, “We see a big performance gain for certain players. (The TSi4) is really for that player who is looking for more speed and distance by minimizing their spin. It’s a smaller, more traditional clubhead… it has the most forward CG of all our driver offerings, so you’ll get a lot of ball speed and reduce your spin.”

While the TSi4 is designed for high-swing speed players, the new TSi1 Driver is optimal for golfers on the other end of the speed spectrum. Epp explained that the TSi1 is built for “the player with moderate swing speed. We’re talking about a player with 90 miles an hour of swing speed or less… they need more speed, more carry, and a little more spin, and that’s what this driver creates.”

Titleist’s new TSi1 Fairway Wood is the only fairway wood featured in the manufacturer’s new TSi line extension. The company worked hard to make the club faster, which they accomplished by eliminating weight. “(The TSi1 Fairway Wood) is actually 50 grams lighter than a standard fairway,” Epp detailed, “10 of that comes from the head weight, 20 from the shaft, and 20 from the grip. It has really high speed across the face while still having great MOI properties.”

With three different new TSi hybrids, Titleist’s newest releases have golfers of all handicaps covered. The most forgiving option of the three hybrids is the TSi1 model. Says Epp, “it’s almost like the perfect combination of a fairway and a hybrid… it is super forgiving, and its launch is out of this world.”

The two other new Titleist hybrids, the TSi2 and TSi3, are designed for golfers with lower handicaps relative to the TSi1. The TSi2 is ideal for golfers who place a premium on distance and forgiveness, and its more rounded shape responds well to those with a sweeping motion at impact.

The TSi3 Hybrid is perfect for golfers that appreciate hybrids with a more compact, iron-like profile. These golfers tend to be highly-skilled ball-strikers that will get the most out of the TSi3’s workability and feel-oriented properties.

During a wide-ranging, 40-minute conversation, Luke Epp detailed exactly why Titleist’s new TSi line extension has caught the attention of both amateurs and professionals. Adam Scott, Russell Henley, and Richy Werenski are among the many Titleist staffers that have made immediate changes to these new models.
