It’s crazy to think with his ball-striking that it would take nearly a year for World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to get back into the winner’s circle (not counting the Hero World Challenge), but that’s exactly what happened as Scheffler’s win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational was his first since capturing the Players Championship last March. Scheffler pulled away from the field with a 6-under 66 on Sunday, giving him his 7th PGA Tour victory.

Scheffler is a TaylorMade staffer, and most of his winning bag was composed of TaylorMade clubs, including perhaps his most important club, his putter, which was new to his bag this week.

Scheffler starts off his winning bag with the latest driver from TaylorMade, the Qi10. Scheffler plays his Qi10 at 8 degrees and uses a Fujikura Ventus Black 7X for his shaft. The Qi10 maximizes ball speed due to its carbon construction, while providing mid-low spin, making it a fit for a wide range of golfers, let alone the Number 1 ranked player in the world. It served Scheffler well all tournament long, as he led the field in Strokes Gained off the Tee.

Fairway Wood: TaylorMade Qi10 (3-Wood)

Moving into the fairway wood category, Scheffler continues to use the TaylorMade Qi10, playing his 3-wood at 15 degrees with a Fujikura Ventus Black 8X shaft in it. The Qi10 suits a wide range of golfers due to its high MOI and neutral ball flight. For Scheffler, it gives him a forgiving option to attack Par 5’s with and another reliable option off the tee.

Irons: Srixon ZU85 (3,4), TaylorMade P7TW (5-PW)

Working down the bag into his irons, Scheffler uses a combination of TaylorMade P7TW’s and Srixon ZU85’s. He uses the P7TW’s for his mid and short irons, while continuing to game the Srixon ZU85’s for his long irons. He’s been using this combination for a while now, and why change things up that work. Scheffler was 2nd in the field in Greens in Regulation hit, finding 50 of 72, while finishing 12th in Strokes Gained Approach to Green. Once again, Scheffler was giving himself more birdie looks than just about every golfer, and this week he was converting those.

Once again, Scheffler stays with what works, gaming the now two generation old Vokey SM8’s for his gap and sand wedge, while using a WedgeWorks Prototype for his lob wedge. While his wedge play certainly played its part in his GIR percentage and Strokes Gained Approach to Green, they were just as good, if not better around the green where he led the field in Strokes Gained. He converted 15 of his 22 up and down opportunities, which was 8th best in the field, and that includes 5 of 8 sand saves.

For Scheffler, his ball-striking is the best on the planet, and every week he ranks near the top of the field in most categories, even when he doesn’t win. He hasn't been winning as much lately due to his putting. After using blade putter for much of the last year, Scheffler switched things up for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, opting for the Spider Tour X mallet putter. That switch seemed to give him the confidence on the greens he had been lacking. In 8 of his previous 11 tournaments, Scheffler was losing strokes to the field on the greens, but this week he finished 5th in Strokes Gained Putting, led the field in Putts per GIR, and finished 6th in total putts, averaging 27 a round. He gained 4.347 strokes on the field putting, compare that to Scheffler losing -0.075 strokes on the green for the season, and it’s quite the turnaround.
