With his win at The Players on Sunday, Scottie Scheffler has accomplished something no other golfer has ever done by winning the PGA Tour’s marquee event in back-to-back years. While his win a year ago came with little to no stress during the final round, this year’s victory required a come-from-behind effort, carding an 8-under 64 on Sunday, as he held off Brian Harman, Xander Schauffele, and Wyndham Clark for the one-stroke victory.

Not only was this Scheffler’s second consecutive win at The Players, it was also his second consecutive win on the PGA Tour this season, after taking home the Arnold Palmer Invitational title a week ago.

His winning bag remained the same, and the TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter he added to the bag ahead of the Arnold Palmer won’t be leaving Scheffler’s bag anytime soon after playing a key part in his back-to-back wins.

Scheffler’s TaylorMade Qi10 starts off his bag, and started off his quest for history as he was dominant off the tee. He led the field in Strokes Gained Off the Tee, gaining more than 6.4 strokes on the field from the tee box. He was 14th in driving distance for the week, averaging 299 yards off the tee. He wasn’t just long either, as Scheffler tied for the lead in driving accuracy by hitting over 80 percent of the fairways. All of that combined helped set up the rest of his game for scoring opportunities.

Fairway Wood: TaylorMade Qi10 (3-Wood)

Scheffler games the TaylorMade Qi10 for his 3-wood too, and often used it from the tee when he was needing to shape a specific shot, or to take a little off to position himself on a hole. It also provided him a club to attack some of the Par 5’s in two with, but not often as he was often long enough off the tee to just need a long iron.

Irons: Srixon ZU85 (3,4), TaylorMade P7TW (5-PW)

Scheffler’s combination of his Srixon ZU85 Utility Irons and his TaylorMade P7TW’s continue to be a lethal setup. That combination helped Scheffler to a 7th place finish in Strokes Gained Approach To Green, gaining 6.352 strokes on the field for the tournament. He also tied for 3rd in Greens in Regulation percentage, giving himself a birdie look or better more than 76 percent of the time. Giving himself scoring opportunities from his superb ball-striking has been Scheffler’s calling card for quite some time now, and this week was no different.

Besides his driver, Scheffler’s wedges were the best part of his game. They played a major factor in Scheffler's Strokes Gained Approach to Green, including a hole-out for eagle on the Par 4 4th hole in Sunday's final round, which really ignited his comeback. Scheffler missed just 17 greens all tournament long, and was able to get up-and-down for par on 13 of those opportunities, which was 8th best in the field. Overall, he finished 6th in Strokes Gained Around the Green, gaining just over 3 strokes on the field for the tournament.

Scheffler’s ball-striking is as good as we’ve seen in quite some time, and it’s why he seems to be in contention every single week, but whether he wins or not usually comes down to his putting. With how good he hits the ball, Scheffler doesn’t need to lead the field in putting, but just not give strokes back to the field on the putting surface, and that’s exactly what he did at The Players. He finished 37th in Strokes Gained Putting, gaining 1.246 strokes on the field, which for Scheffler is a drastic improvement to how he was putting prior to the past two weeks. The switch to the TaylorMade Spider Tour X seems to have made the difference for Scheffler, and with two wins in two starts since putting it in his bag, his new putter isn’t going anywhere.
