Srixon ZX Retrospective

March 07, 2023

One of the advantages of buying used golf equipment is that golfers can use hindsight to truly evaluate how big of a technological leap particular club releases made. This week, we are taking a look back at Srixon’s 2021 suite of metal woods: the ZX series.

Leading the way are the Srixon ZX7 and ZX5 drivers. The chief technology driving these clubs is the Rebound Frame, which channels more energy into the golf ball at impact. It features a unique structure that works by layering alternating zones of stiff and flexible material in a concentric pattern. The clubfaces are also made of an extremely flexible Ti51AF titanium alloy, which is surrounded by a more rigid perimeter. Then, Srixon implemented an additional ring of thin, flexible material right in front of the internal rib structure. This flexible, rigid, flexible, and rigid material pattern is designed to maximize energy transfer at impact.

Additionally, the carbon crown in each ZX driver is 15% larger than in previous generations and allows Srixon to reposition mass low, deep, and around the perimeter to increase MOI and forgiveness. With an adjustable hosel sleeve and two sole weights in the ZX7, that model can be tweaked at will to promote a draw or fade bias. The adjustable hosel sleeve also includes 12 unique loft and lie settings. Of the two ZX drivers, the ZX7 offers a more compact shape and a more forward center of gravity, while the ZX5 is a more forgiving, high-MOI weapon.

As seen in the ZX drivers, the Srixon ZX fairway wood and hybrid also feature the new Rebound Frame, which provides similar distance and forgiveness gains. Unique to the ZX fairway wood is a cannon sole, which features a forward-leaning weight pad and a flexible sole that work together to maximize ball speed and optimize launch. Additionally, the ZX Fairway Wood and ZX Hybrid include a crown step, which lowers the center of gravity thus increasing MOI and optimizing launch. The result is a straighter and more consistent ball flight. The Srixon ZX fairway wood is available in four different lofts, from 13.5 degrees to 21 degrees, allowing golfers to adequately gap their bags so that every yardage is covered.

In the ZX hybrid, golfers will find a tour-inspired shape boasting a smaller footprint, a straight face angle, and a squared-off toe. The Srixon ZX hybrid is available in five different lofts, from 16 degrees to 28 degrees, allowing golfers to adequately gap their bags so that every yardage is covered.
