Viktor Hovland successfully defended his title at the 2022 Hero World Challenge, edging past Scottie Scheffler once again to win by two shots.

 

Hovland built his lead to as big as five shots entering the final nine holes of regulation. However, Scheffler clawed back to trail by just two heading into the 72nd hole, meaning the tournament was far from over. This was especially true when Hovland's approach shot went wayward into a hazard, forcing him to take a penalty shot. Suddenly, Hovland was forced to grind to stay atop the leaderboard.

 

And that's exactly what he did. Hovland got up and down for bogey thanks to a 20-foot putt. Scheffler still could have tied Hovland with a birdie at the difficult finishing hole, but his approach shot also went wayward, finding a greenside bunker. The former world No. 1 also made a bogey, leaving Hovland at the top.
