Callaway Original Great Big Bertha Driver
The Callaway Big Bertha driver was the start of a now iconic line of golf clubs. The idea: make the most forgiving driver possible while maximizing distance at the same time. Named after an artillery cannon used in WWI designers hoped to create a club that shot golf balls off the face for better distance. The hosel design allowed weight to be concentrated lower in the club and that increases launch angles. The perimeter weighted, 190cc club started what may be one of the most recognizable equipment lines in the golf industry.
