Callaway XR 16 Pro Driver
Who’s It For?
The Callaway XR 16 Pro driver is built primarily for low and middle handicap players. With this club, Callaway attempted to design a driver that combines excellent feel and higher speed, and there is no question that the company succeeded in their endeavor. During the design process, however, less emphasis was placed on improving forgiveness, so players seeking that feature should look to Callaway’s XR 16 driver. But the better golfer will find everything he or she desires in a driver in the Callaway XR 16 Pro. This 450cc driver is not only long but also highly workable and aesthetically pleasing.
The Tech Story
Just as they did with the XR 16 driver, Callaway’s engineers worked closely with aerodynamics experts at Boeing to make the XR 16 Pro driver reach a whole new level of speed thanks to reduced drag. To accomplish this, Callaway optimized the size and placement of their Speed Step technology to reduce weight and add more speed. The company also managed to shift the club’s center of gravity lower and deeper, which creates a large amount of forgiveness to increase performance on off-center strikes. Finally, Callaway installed their R-MOTO face technology that is 19 percent lighter and thinner than the clubhead faces of previous models. This excess weight was redistributed around the rest of the club to further increase forgiveness by increasing the driver’s MOI.
