The Tech Story

Callaway’s primary goals with the XR 16 fairway woods were to increase forgiveness and speed. To tackle this, the company slightly increased the head shape of the club which helped lower the center of gravity and increase COR. The crowns of these fairway woods are also lighter than previous fairway woods, which allowed Callaway to shift the excess weight around the clubhead to maximize forgiveness and increase the amount of ball speed the club could generate. Finally, Callaway’s engineers took the company’s Hyper Speed Face Cup technology and made it hotter and thinner, which has led to a larger sweet spot and an increase in speed.
