Who’s It For

Srixon believes the new Z F85 is the most advanced fairway wood it has ever made. Among the reasons is that significant input was sought out from the company’s staff of touring pros during the design process. As one might expect given the utilization of professional feedback, these are fairway woods that are likely to appeal to better players, as they feature tour-inspired shaping and were designed to give golfers what Srixon is calling a “powerful, penetrating ball flight” from the turf or a tee. That said, these are fairways that also will offer ample forgiveness on mis-hits, which will make them a realistic option for more average ball-strikers as well.

The Tech Story

There have been significant technological upgrades made when comparing the new Z F85 fairway woods with the Z F65 models, especially when it comes to the 3+ and 3 models. Most notably, those two options now feature carbon crowns, which allowed engineers to save weight and reposition it to the perimeter of the clubhead to produce improved results on shots played from the heel or toe. Additionally, the 3+ and 3 feature Cup Face designs to maximize ball speed from across the clubface for explosive distance numbers. The 5-wood, meanwhile, features a more traditional construction approach using stainless steel, and all three models utilize a crown step to improve aerodynamics during the swing while also helping position the CG low and deep in the clubhead to improve impact stability. The stock shaft for the Srixon Z F85 fairway woods is the mid-launching, mid-spinning HZRDUS Red 65, which is known for being both smooth and stable.
