Who’s It For?
The TaylorMade Spider putter family has been widely regarded as one of the most successful series of mallet putters in golf for several years. Golfers seeking more stability and have no problem looking down at a larger clubhead have gravitated toward the high-MOI designs in the Spider family. New in 2020 is the Spider S, which uses a square-frame shape and an abundance of tungsten weighting to generate the highest MOI in any Spider putter to date. The Spider S is available in a single bend shaft that is face-balanced to best fit golfers with a straight-back, straight-through putting stroke.
The Tech Story
The technology that drives the Spider S performance starts with a multi-material construction that includes the use of a high-grade 6061 aluminum body and over 150 grams of tungsten weighting placed precisely to improve stability. TaylorMade engineers have placed 48-gram weights in the heel and the toe to improve performance on off-center strikes and to improve the consistency of the putting stroke. Meanwhile, a tungsten weight bar customized for each available shaft length is designed to promote better feel and performance. Overall, the Spider S has an MOI of over 6,000, which amounts to the most forgiveness of any model in the Spider franchise. Completing the Spider S technology is the Tour-proven Pure Roll Insert with a thicker 5mm surlyn insert for better sound, feel, and roll.
