The new 2018 Select lineup from Scotty Cameron features a total of seven unique blade and mid-mallet designs, meaning any golfer will likely have an option that suits their eye and their putting stroke. The Newport has been one of the most popular Cameron designs for several years now. It’s a traditional heel-toe weighted blade that features a shorter, more rounded shape and a plumbers neck. With what Cameron classifies as a medium amount of toe flow, the Newport will work best for players who have moderate arcs in their putting stroke.
The Tech Story
The most significant change from a technology standpoint in the new 2018 Select lineup from Scotty Cameron is the introduction of what Titleist is referring to as a four-way balanced sole design. More specifically, in an effort to ensure that golfers can line up correctly time and again, the balance point in the sole of each putter has been moved slightly forward to better account for the weight of the shaft and the grip, which enables the putter to sit perfectly square at address and without a closed or toed-in look of any kind. Additionally in the 2018 Select models, 30 percent more vibration dampening material has been incorporated into each design between the face inlay and the body, with the result being improved feel and softer acoustics without any sacrifice in the feedback players get from an off-center strike. And finally, based on input from a number of Tour players, the toplines of the 2018 Select offerings have been thinned out and their edges and angles have been made more square to further create confidence for players in terms of their alignment.
“Everything I’ve learned from refining and redesigning Newport-style putters over the last two decades has gone into this 2018 Select line. I always strive to raise the bar by incorporating new materials, milling and manufacturing techniques. I’m at the point with the Select line of putters that now I’m hyper-focused on the finest details.” -- Scotty Cameron
