Titleist has dabbled with the extreme high-end products in recent years, releasing the C16 irons and driver back in 2016. In 2019, Titleist is continuing the “concept car” initiative with a pair of iron sets made from unique materials and construction methods that have never been used in irons before. The CNCPT CP-01 irons are designed for extreme speed, launch, and forgiveness in a game-improvement package, perfect for moderate to high-handicap players. Better ball strikers interested in the CNCPT irons will want to look at the CNCPT CP-02 irons.
The Tech Story
Titleist engineers were given a green light to use whatever materials and methods it took to add as much ball speed and forgiveness into one set of irons as possible with the CNCPT CP-01 irons. The result is the inclusion of a Super Metal L-Face insert, which Titleist calls the thinnest unsupported, constant-thickness face in golf. The insert is made of a unique, supremely strong alloy that has primarily been used in the aerospace industry and creates unprecedented ball speeds from irons. A hollowed design, much like a metalwood, allows an abundance of high-density tungsten to be placed in the clubhead (up to 50 percent of the head weight in the shorter irons) to produce high launch and excellent forgiveness. In the CP-01 irons, the larger clubhead with the hollow design creates an extremely low and back center of gravity position, adding to the impressive forgiveness and high launch.
