PING’s New offering to the G line, the G Series Crossover is describe quite accurately. It’s practically a new category; however as the hybrid category is a blend between a Fairway Wood and a hard to hit long iron, the G Series Crossover is designed to be a reverse bridge between the categories. It will play long like a hybrid and offer versatility in the thick stuff, but its intended use is for more shot making opportunities that better players would take with the long irons trying to be precise when attacking the green. The G Series Crossover has a flat face and grooves like your long irons for spin control and shot shaping. The Crossovers have a taller face than a typical iron which helps expand the perimeter weighting across the face for hybrid like forgiveness. A carpenter steel 455 face is used to ensure consistency and forgiveness, while also giving it the hot face of a hybrid for longer shot making opportunities. The G Series Crossover has a wider sole to help promote clean consistent turf interact. By giving it a wider sole, weight can be repositioned low and further away from the face giving it a deep and back CG position for higher launching capabilities, which is ideal when attacking a green with precision and a soft landing. The High MOI of the Crossover is derived from an internal toe weight, which stabilizes the head and adds forgiveness. Just like the G Woods and G Hybrids, the G Crossover has a tiered internal sole which helps distribute energy across the entire face for maximum distance while not sacrificing any forgiving qualities. The G Series Crossover can be paired well with PING’s New Alta shafts or a next generation AWT 2.0 Steel shaft. Since the Crossover is meant to play like a long iron, it can be order with a specific color code to match your irons for consistency.
