TaylorMade P790 UDI Utility Iron
Who’s It For?
TaylorMade’s new P790 irons deliver the extreme distance and forgiveness in a smaller footprint that is necessary to thrive in the players-distance iron category. With that said, those characteristics would also describe an effective utility iron. TaylorMade built the P790 UDI as a utility iron using nearly the exact same methods and materials as the new P790 irons. The result is a long, controllable, and versatile utility iron that will provide better ball strikers with an excellent replacement for fairway woods or hybrids.
The Tech Story
The P790 UDI utility iron generates explosive distance and superb forgiveness in a relatively compact frame thanks to a number of technologies. SpeedFoam technology, which consists of an ultra-light urethane foam injected inside the head that is engineered to push the design limits of face speed while simultaneously improving feel. TaylorMade also implemented significant Low Profile Tungsten Weighting within the sole of the clubhead, bringing down the center of gravity and producing a higher launch. The Thru Slot Speed Pocket along the sole increases face flexing, improving ball speed forgiveness on mis-hits. Lastly, the forged hollow body construction with a soft carbon steel body delivers a solid pop off the clubface and a firm feel.
