Wilson Staff Cortex Driver
Who’s It For
The new Wilson Staff Cortex driver gained acclaim by being selected as the winning design from Season 2 of the Golf Channel television show Driver vs. Driver. From a performance standpoint, the Cortex was created to be a good fit for players of all ability levels, as it was designed to deliver fast ball speeds and perform well on off-center strikes. It also features significant customization options to help players achieve the shot shape and trajectory that they’re looking for, which should further make the Cortex appealing to a wide range of golfer.
The Tech Story
The key design feature that is driving performance in the new Wilson Staff Cortex driver is a construction approach that features a clubhead comprised of 44 percent carbon fiber. The lightweight carbon excompasses a titanium skeleton that’s extremely stable, a feature that Wilson is calling Fast Cage Technology, and that combination allowed weight to be positioned optimally throughout the head to provide impressive results on mis-hits, fast ball speeds from across the clubface, and reduced twisting of the clubhead at impact on shots struck from the heel or toe. Also included in the design is the longest, deepest weight track that Wilson has ever used in a driver, as an eight-gram weight can be positioned at the back of the track to promote more spin and a higher ball flight or closer to the clubface to lower spin and produce a more penetrating ball flight. There are also weight ports and interchangeable weights of two and eight grams that can be positioned in the sole of the driver to create a player’s preferred shot shape, and an adjustable loft sleeve with six unique settings further enables golfers to create their ideal flight conditions. Players will also have the option of choosing a premium aftermarket Fujikura Atmos Tour Spec shaft for their Cortex, with the Red model offering higher launch conditions, the Blue model offering mid launch conditions, and the White model offering low launch conditions, and there are also other custom shaft options available at no upcharge.
