Wilson Staff D7 Driver
Who’s It For?
Wilson Staff has boasted impressive innovations in recent driver releases, and the D7 driver is no different. The implementation of Re-AKT technology and Kevlar, a strong synthetic fiber material, into the crown has enhanced sound, feel, and launch in a number of ways. Wilson engineers also positioned discretionary weight in different locations based on the loft of the driver. This driver is built for lower or moderate swing speeds that won’t see much benefit from adjustability options. Players with faster swing speeds might want to look at the C300 driver from Wilson Staff.
The Tech Story
The D7 men’s driver from Wilson Staff is designed primarily to enhance launch and carry distance off the tee for golfers with low or moderate swing speeds. Wilson’s Re-AKT technology helped implement Kevlar, a strong synthetic fiber material, into the crown to allow for a number of improvements. The material has allowed the overall club head weight to stay at just 192 grams while other advancements were made. Additionally, those weight savings have allowed the center of gravity to be lowered, which heightens the average launch angle to get the ball into the air easier. The Kevlar also dampens vibrations at impact to enhance the sound and feel of both center and off-center hits. Weight saved from adding Kevlar has been placed in unique locations based on the driver’s loft. The 9-degree D7 driver will fit slightly faster club head speeds, so the weight is positioned more forward to reduce spin and launch angle. The 13-degree option is tailored toward the slowest of swing speeds that will use this driver, so the added weight is placed further back and toward the heel to encourage carry distance and discourage an unwanted fade or slice. Lastly, the 10.5-degree option represents a balance between the 9-degree and 13-degree options, with added weight in the center of the club head.
