The 2023 Ryder Cup tees off on Friday with the U.S. Team looking to defend its 2021 title, but to do so, the Americans will have to win on European soil, something they haven't done since 1993. Captain Zach Johnson brings an experienced group, with a few fresh faces mixed in to Rome where they'll take aim at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in pursuit of a second straight Ryder Cup victory. This year's U.S. team features 8 players with previous experience, including 7 from that 2021 team that routed Europe at Whistling Straits. Four players will be making their Ryder Cup debuts, though two of the American rookies have represented the U.S. at the President's Cup.

Now you know who's playing, where and when they'll be playing, and why they're playing, but what about what they're playing with? For this week's "What's in the Bag", we take a look at each player's arsenal they'll be using in Rome. Each player's selection is listed below, but let's take a closer look at some interesting tidbits about the makeup of the U.S. Team's bags first.

For the U.S. Team, Titleist was the most popular driver manufacturer, with six players using a Titleist Driver. Among the individual models, the Titleist TSR3 and TSi3, along with the Callaway Paradym were the most popular models, each being represented by two players. Eight players are using a current 2023 model for their driver, three are using a 2021 model, but it's Patrick Cantlay's Titleist TS3 Driver that takes the crown for the oldest model represented on the U.S. Team, as it came out in 2019.

There was a little more variety among the fairway woods selection. Titleist still held the top spot with five players using it, but TaylorMade wasn't far behind, with four players choosing them. The TaylorMade Stealth 2 was the most popular model, with three players having it in their bag. As for the oldest model among all the American bags, once again it was Titleist taking the honors, with both Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas using a 915F series, which was released in 2015.

For Hybrids and Utility Irons, Titleist once again was the most popular among the American Team, with five sporting a Titleist set of some sorts. The most popular model happened to be the Titleist T200, which Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, and Max Homa all use in place of the 3 iron in their iron set. Brooks Koepka has perhaps the most unique selection for a utility iron, keeping his Nike Vapor Pro 3 Iron in the bag.

The same trend continues, with Titleist irons in the bag for six of the twelve members of the U.S. team. The Titleist 620 CB's were the most popular individual model, with three players sporting them. Once again it's Patrick Cantlay with the most unique setup, sticking with what works as he rocks the Titleist AP2's in his bag.

Vokey wedges were the clear cut wedge of choice among the U.S. Team, with every player besides Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler, and Collin Morikawa having at least one Vokey wedge in their bag. The SM9 was the most popular model with eight players donning at least one. The oldest model among all the wedges is Xander Schauffele's SM6 56 degree.

There are only three putter brands represented on the U.S. Team, with half of the team using a Scotty Cameron, four playing with Odyssey, and two players using a TaylorMade putter. The most popular model shouldn't come as a surprise if you paid attention to the PGA Tour this summer, as the Odyssey Versa Jailbird was the only model used by more than one player, with U.S. Open Champ Wyndham Clark and Rickie Fowler playing with it.

For a more specific look into what's in each player's bag, see below. Note that these bag makeups are subject to change based on each player's preference before play begins.
